GAD - Greenwich Association of Disabled People

Support in education

Since 2008 GAD Support Workers have provided assistance for disabled people in Further and Higher education.

Student disability support is provided through a number of different funding bodies, each with their own guidelines, funding limits and approval requirements. We always take into account the funding body's specific guidelines, funding limits and approval requirements to ensure that funding is managed efficiently for students.

In the UK, funding is known as the Disabled Student Allowance (DSA). Most of the support services we provide are funded through this allowance and responsibility for securing this funding is down to the individual student. We are able to provide:

  • Notetaking
  • Library assistance
  • Reading
  • Mobility support
  • Study buddy
  • Transcription services
  • Proof reading
  • Dyslexia tuition
  • Mental health mentoring
  • IT training
  • Study skills tuition
  • Language support tuition
  • Sign language interpretation
  • Communication Support Worker

We have an extensive network of specialist Support Workers with experience in particular disabilities, including:

  • Physical disabilities
  • Specific learning difficulties (i.e. Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia etc.)
  • Visual and vocal impairments
  • Autism and Asperger's
  • Mental health
