GAD has been selected as one of the community organisations shortlisted for funding from Lloyds Community Fund. We were nominated by one of our former volunteers, Aimee Bishop. We have bid for funding to expand our social groups, which lost funding a couple of years ago and have been carrying on in a limited way mainly by good will and using volunteers. We have some exciting things planned, including a photography project to enable local disabled people to change perceptions in the media, a history project to celebrate 40 years of disabled people providing user led services, and a new forum to enable local disabled people to influence services.
Lloyds has shortlisted 1,632 organisations into 400 communities. Each nomination has been allocated to a local community, along with three other good causes. And from 2 September the public will be invited to vote for the cause that matter most to them. Each local causes will be awarded funding depending on the number of votes they receive. The group with the most votes will get £3,000, the next £2,000, £1,000 and finally, £500.
