GAD Hustings 2015

After last year's successful hustings for the Local Council elections, GAD hosted two events this week for the General Election on the 7th May 2015.

We held hustings in Deptford on Tuesday 28th April for the Lewisham Deptford Constituency where we have an office in the Deptford Lounge. All ten candidates were invited and six were able to attend and take questions from the floor. The candidates who attended were Bim Afolami (Conservative), Philip Badger (Democratic Reform), Michael Bukola (Liberal Democrats), Vicky Foxcroft (Labour), Malcolm Martin (Christian Peoples Alliance) and Helen Mercer (People Before Profit).

The following night we hosted another hustings at our main office in The Forum in Trafalgar Road for the Greenwich and Woolwich Constituency and again all six candidates were invited. The candidates able to attend were Philip Connolly representing candidate Abideen Akinshun (Green Party), Matt Hartley (Conservative), Tom Holder (Liberal Democrats) and Matthew Pennycook (Labour). In addition Clive Efford (who is standing in the Eltham Constituency for Labour) was able to join us for the first part of the meeting.

In both events there were many probing questions and lively debates between constituents and the candidates. It took a firm control from Samantha Mitchell who chaired the Deptford hustings and Anne Novis who chaired the meeting in Greenwich to ensure that everyone had the opportunity to speak and be heard. Afterwards constituents were able to meet the candidates and ask specific questions about the issues that concern them directly.
